This Friday (Sept 30th), much loved NOLA comic Addy Najera records her new comedy album, Isn't This Fun, at the Mudlark Theatre. If you're unfortunate enough not to know Addy, we quizzed her on a few pressing matters on your behalf.
nocomedy.com: Among your comedic themes are awkwardness, animals and bodily functions. Do any of these figure prominently in the show?
Addy Najera: There will be cats at the bar. And I'm sure they'd follow you into the bathroom if you wanted.
The Mudlark is famous for being a puppet theatre. What’s your feeling about puppets? Could you sleep soundly with one in sitting in a chair the corner of your bedroom?
If you can't handle me at my puppets, you don't deserve me when I'm not surrounded by puppets. Please don't bring puppets to my home.
Your show description says you are a ‘veteran’ performer and yet you are also a ‘veterinarian’ performer. Kind of. Will there be lots of ‘vet’ wordplay like I just did?
There will be little to no word play. Also no laughing and no smiling.
What are the best and worst things about working in a vet’s office? Unrelated: what animal drugs would be the most enjoyable for humans to take?
The worst thing is talking to people about their animals. The best thing is shit talking about the owners with their animals. Most animal drugs are human drugs so you can guess which are the funnest.
The show also features Cyrus Cooper and Julie Mitchell - for people that don’t know them, please describe each of them in three words.
Cyrus Cooper: very cool dude. Julie Mitchell: good at everything
If people get to the show early, what calibre of person might they expect to be able to schmooze with in the bar?
Scumbags, with a few doctors.
Please rate how fun you promise the show will be, on a scale from cutting Donald Trump’s toenails to doing karaoke with Jennifer Lawrence.
My show is going to be "convince Hillary Duff to do movies again and she's so grateful she offers you a co-starting role" fun.
Addy Najera presents Isn't This Fun on Sept. 30th @ The Mudlark Public Theatre. Doors @7, show @8, $5.
