New York's Louis Katz (pictured) is a regular visitor to New Orleans, and he lands back in town this Thursday to close out Night Church (Sidney's Saloon, 8.30pm, FREE). The comic's credits include Jimmy Fallon and a Comedy Central special, and two more NYC comedians join him on Thursday - former NOLA resident Molly Ruben-Long and Chris Trani. Free ice cream Cafe Bars by American Cold brew might sweeten the deal even more. Also this week, a new formatted show, Down the Rabbit Hole, looks at the internet history of the featured comics (HiHo, Lounge, Fri 12th October, 8pm, FREE). Sunday 14th October is a benefit fundraiser for the Sea Cave Arcade with a strong local line up (Siberia, 8pm, FREE).
Stavros Halkias, co-presenter of the provocative Cum Town podcast, plays two special shows at AllWays Lounge this Saturday (15th September). He plays to the 60-ish seater venue at 7pm and 9pm, with tickets at $15 in advance (via Brown Paper tickets).
The city's only live pun contest, International House of Puncakes, finishes up its first round stages and the winner and runner up from Friday (14th) will fill the last two spots in the Grand Final (on November 9th) - the show is free and runs at HiHo Lounge at 8pm, with Abigail Isaacoff, Paul Joseph and Monika Scott providing the comedic breaks.

In the first of a hopeful series of three-day events, Local Uproar and It's Good Comedy are bringing LA-based comic Billy Wayne Davis to New Orleans. Davis, with Conan and Last Comic Standing among his credits, will play three intimate venues on consecutive days. The shows are all just $10 and take place at Sidney's Saloon (Thursday 21st @ 8.30pm), Maison Frenchmen (Friday 22nd @ 8.30pm) and The AllWays Lounge (Saturday 23rd @ 8pm). The shows are sponsored by New Orleans Ice Cream Company and American Cold Brew Cafe Bars and will lead into other name comedians being bought to New Orleans playing three days in lieu of playing a residency at a comedy club. There's a glut of new comedy shows and returning favourites for this March for comedy in New Orleans.
This Thursday (March 15th) sees Chicago's VHS Comedy take to the stage at Sidney's Saloon. Comics will do sets and riff on weird and wonderfully obscure videos. It's hosted by Tom Wisdom and will feature Laura Sanders and Kamari Stevens among others. Show at 8.30pm, free with free ice cream Cafe Bars.
The third International House of Puncakes - the city's only live punning contest - returns to HiHo Lounge on Friday 16th, with 16 contestants lining up to win the pun crown. It's at 8pm, is free and features sets by Isaac Kozell, Lauren Malara and Benjamin Hoffman.
A new show - Exorcise - gives two comics time to do longer, 30 minute sets. Hosted by Isaac Kozell, this month sees Geneva Joy Hughes and Vincent Zambon stretch their legs (VooDoo Lounge, 24th march, 10pm, FREE).
All Jokes Aside is a new fortnightly show at Brieux Carre in the French Quarter. It's a showcase, it's free, and it's at 8.30pm. Hosted by Michael Hall and Eric Dreiblatt.

Tonight (Friday 6th October) sees the inaugural International House of Puncakes, New Orleans' first live pun contest. 16 contestants will duke it out at the HiHo Lounge, using only their wordplay skills to win prizes. The show starts at 8pm and is free. Comedians Geneva Joy Hughes, Laura Sanders and LA's Sumukh Torgalkar will also perform.
The great Monday night open mic at 12 Mile Limit is tonight collecting donations and donating its own share of the bar take to United for Puerto Rico, helping people affected by the recent devastating hurricane. Sign up is at 8.30 for comics, with the show at 9pm.
New Orleans' first live pun contest happens at the HiHo Lounge on Friday October 6th. Inspired by the infamous Punderdome contest in New York, contestants will take to the stage in front of an expectant audience to run the pun gauntlet. There'll be three knockout rounds, interspersed with sets from local and touring stand up comics. The event is free and starts at 8pm. If you'd like to be a contestant, there's still time to sign up.
